INTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE CELL

In line with its Action Plan aimed at evaluating, assessing, accrediting, and improving the quality of higher education institutions, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in Bangalore suggests that each accredited institution establish an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as a means of ensuring quality sustenance post-accreditation. With a focus on continuous quality improvement, the IQAC will integrate into the institution’s framework and strive to achieve and maintain higher academic standards. The primary role of the IQAC is to create a framework for deliberate, uniform, and proactive enhancement in the overall performance of institutions. Throughout the post-accreditation phase, it will direct all endeavors and actions of the institution toward fostering comprehensive academic excellence.

The forthcoming guidelines aim to support and assist institutions in establishing and managing the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). The IQAC’s work marks the initial step in embedding and institutionalizing initiatives for enhancing quality. Its effectiveness hinges on fostering a sense of belonging and active involvement among all members of the institution. It won’t be merely another hierarchical structure or a documentation task; rather, it will function as a supportive, collaborative, and voluntary system or body within the institution. It holds the potential to serve as a catalyst for enhancing quality by implementing targeted strategies to address shortcomings and elevate standards, akin to the ‘Quality Circles’ observed in industries.
